Target Information
HOXD13 (homeobox protein D13) belongs to a class of transcription factors called homeobox proteins. In vertebrates, homeobox genes are found in clusters (A, B, C, and D) on four separate chromosomes. Expression of these proteins is spatially and temporally regulated during embryonic development.
The HOXD13 gene, part of the D cluster on chromosome 2, is associated with limb and genital development. Deletions or mutations in this region can cause severe developmental abnormalities, such as synpolydactyly.
