Target Information
TAS2R4 encodes a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily, specifically expressed in taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelia.
These intronless genes encode a 7-transmembrane receptor functioning as a bitter taste receptor.
The gene is clustered with three other candidate taste receptor genes on chromosome 7 and is linked to loci influencing bitter perception.
It acts as a gustducin-coupled receptor for denatonium and N(6)-propyl-2-thiouracil, involved in the perception of bitter compounds in the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract.
Signals through PLCB2 and TRPM5 channels, expressed in gustducin-positive taste receptor cells.
