Target Information
GPT (Glutamate-pyruvate transaminase), also known as alanine aminotransferase, catalyzes the reversible conversion of L-alanine and alpha-ketoglutarate to L-glutamate and pyruvate. This protein has two distinct molecular and genetic forms: one cytoplasmic (soluble) form (GPT1) and one mitochondrial form (GPT2). Quantitative trait loci influencing plasma levels of alanine aminotransferase are referred to as ALTQTL1 and ALTQTL2.
