Target Information
The SCN4B protein modulates channel gating kinetics. It causes negative shifts in the voltage dependence of activation of certain alpha sodium channels, but does not affect the voltage dependence of inactivation.
SCN4B is highly expressed in dorsal root ganglia, and at lower levels in brain, spinal cord, skeletal muscle, and heart.
Defects in SCN4B are associated with long QT syndrome type 10 (LQT10) [MIM:611819], a heart disorder characterized by prolonged QT interval and polymorphic ventricular arrhythmias that can lead to syncope or sudden death during exercise or emotional stress.
