Target Information
ATP synthase is an evolutionarily conserved transmembrane enzyme found in plants, fungi, bacteria, and animals. It catalyzes the reversible conversion of ADP and phosphate into ATP, driven by proton flux across the membrane resulting from electron transfer. The enzyme consists of two main sections:
- F1 ATP-ase (soluble): composed of alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon subunits
- F0 ATP-ase (membrane embedded): composed of a, b, and c subunits
