Target Information
Muscle myosin is a hexameric protein composed of 2 heavy chain subunits, 2 alkali light chain subunits, and 2 regulatory light chain subunits.
The MYH7 gene encodes the beta (slow) heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin, predominantly expressed in the human ventricle and slow-twitch skeletal muscle fibers.
Alterations in MYH7 expression are associated with changes in cardiac contractile velocity, thyroid hormone depletion, and hemodynamic stress.
Mutations in this gene have been linked to familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myosin storage myopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and Laing early-onset distal myopathy.
