Target Information
HIPPI is required for the formation of cilia and plays an indirect role in sonic hedgehog signaling, as cilia are essential for hedgehog pathway activity. It has a pro-apoptotic function via interaction with HIP1, recruiting caspase-8 (CASP8) to trigger apoptosis. HIPPI can bind the DNA sequence motif 5'-AAAGACATG-3' in promoters of caspase genes (CASP1, CASP8, CASP10), suggesting possible transcriptional regulatory activity, though its biological relevance remains unclear.
