Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the translation repressor protein family. The protein interacts directly with eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), a limiting component of the complex that recruits 40S ribosomal subunits to the 5′ end of mRNAs. Interaction with eIF4E inhibits complex assembly and represses translation. The protein is phosphorylated in response to signals such as UV irradiation and insulin, leading to dissociation from eIF4E and activation of mRNA translation.
