Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, thereby reversing their anti-apoptotic activity. Its proapoptotic function is controlled by phosphorylation, mediated by kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
