Target Information

CD48 (Blast-1) belongs to the CD2 subset of the immunoglobulin superfamily, including CD2, CD58, CD84, CD150, CD229, and CD244. These molecules mediate homotypic or heterotypic adhesion through binding within the Ig family.

CD48 is a GPI-anchored protein broadly expressed on hematopoietic cells and serves as a high-affinity ligand for 2B4 and a low-affinity ligand for CD2. The 2B4–CD48 interaction among NK and NK-T cells regulates proliferation and contributes to eosinophil activation. CD48 expression increases in several infectious diseases and may play a role in allergic airway disease pathology, serving as a potential pharmacological target for allergic rhinitis and asthma.
