Himedia Anthrone
Anthrone is a reagent capable of reducing aldehyde-containing reducing sugars such as streptose and N-acetyl glucosamine present in streptomycin into acids. This reaction produces a red-violet color, allowing quantitative determination of streptomycin.
It is also used for detecting carbohydrate-containing lipids and measuring sugar content such as sucrose and trehalose in liquid media.
