Target Information
Muscle myosin is a hexameric protein composed of two heavy chain subunits, two alkali light chain subunits, and two regulatory light chain subunits.
The MYH7 gene encodes the beta (or slow) heavy chain subunit of cardiac myosin, predominantly expressed in the human ventricle and in slow-twitch skeletal muscle fibers.
Expression levels of MYH7 correlate with cardiac muscle contractile velocity and are altered under thyroid hormone depletion or hemodynamic overload.
Mutations in MYH7 are linked to familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myosin storage myopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, and Laing early-onset distal myopathy.
