Target Information
Leukocytes adhere to the blood vessel endothelium during extravasation in postcapillary venules of lymph nodes. Leukocyte adhesion also occurs in capillaries and small venules throughout the body following inflammation. This process involves a cascade of adhesion receptors, including members of the selectin and immunoglobulin superfamilies.
E-selectin (CD62E) is an endothelial cell-specific selectin expressed only after activation by proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, TNFα, or bacterial components (e.g., LPS) via an NFκB-dependent signaling cascade. E-selectin plays a key role in leukocyte adhesion and has been associated with endothelial activation during inflammation.
