Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the dual specificity protein phosphatase subfamily. These phosphatases inactivate their target kinases by dephosphorylating both phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine residues. They negatively regulate members of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) superfamily, which are involved in cellular proliferation and differentiation.
Different members of this phosphatase family show distinct substrate specificities, tissue distribution, subcellular localization, and inducibility by extracellular stimuli. The DUSP5 gene product inactivates ERK1, is expressed in various tissues (highest in pancreas and brain), and is localized in the nucleus.
