Background
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPL35 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L29P family. It is located in the cytoplasm, and multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
