Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator. The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings). The 19S regulator includes a base with ATPase and non-ATPase subunits and a lid with up to 10 non-ATPase subunits. Proteasomes are widely distributed in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes one of the ATPase subunits, a member of the triple-A family of ATPases with chaperone-like activity. It interacts with a nuclear hormone receptor superfamily member expressed in liver and with gankyrin, a liver oncoprotein. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
