Background
STEAP3 metalloreductase (STEAP3) is a multipass membrane protein functioning as an iron transporter. It reduces Fe³⁺ and Cu²⁺ cations and may mediate downstream responses to p53, promoting apoptosis. Deficiency in this gene can cause anemia. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
