GBAS는 소포 수송에 관여하는 NipSnap 계열 단백질을 암호화하며, 주로 미토콘드리아 내에 존재하여 산화적 인산화 과정에 관여합니다. 이 유전자의 비기능성 사본은 염색체 2의 장완에 위치하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 아이소폼이 존재합니다.
