Target Information
Mutations at the BCHE locus are associated with suxamethonium sensitivity. Homozygous individuals may experience prolonged apnea after administration of the muscle relaxant suxamethonium during anesthesia. The pseudocholinesterase activity in serum is reduced, and substrate behavior is atypical. In the absence of the relaxant, homozygotes show no known disadvantage.
