DAK 유전자는 dihydroxyacetone kinase 계열에 속하며, 다른 키나아제와 구별되는 단백질 구조를 가지고 있습니다. 이 유전자의 산물은 dihydroxyacetone을 인산화하고, 또한 FAD로부터 riboflavin 4',5'-phosphate(aka cyclin FMN)를 형성하는 반응을 촉매합니다. 여러 가지 대체 스플라이싱 전사체가 보고되었으나, 전체 길이가 확인된 것은 하나뿐입니다.
