Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the ATPase associated with diverse activities (AAA) family, characterized by a conserved ATPase domain. Members of this family are involved in various cellular processes including membrane fusion, DNA replication, microtubule severing, and protein degradation.
The SPATA5 protein has a putative mitochondrial targeting sequence and may play a role in maintaining mitochondrial function and integrity during spermatogenesis.
Allelic variants are associated with epilepsy, hearing loss, and cognitive disability syndrome.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
