Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a key role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression. Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK is associated with cell cycle regulation.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in tumor development. Deregulated expression induces apoptosis in different cell types. Antibodies against c-Myc recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags. Amplification of c-Myc is observed in lung, breast, and colon carcinomas, while N-Myc amplification occurs in neuroblastomas. Translocation of the c-Myc locus is linked to Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative disorders. Aberrant expression of c-Myc is found across numerous tumor types including colorectal, gastric, hepatic, ovarian, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
