Target Information

Cells respond to environmental stress by increasing expression of heat shock or stress proteins. HSPB1 (Hsp27) is a small heat shock protein acting as a molecular chaperone, maintaining denatured proteins in a folding-competent state. It contributes to stress resistance and actin organization.
HSP27 regulates phosphorylation and axonal transport of neurofilament proteins. Mutations in this gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease 2F and Neuronopathy distal hereditary motor 2B.
