RARRES1 유전자는 레티노산 수용체(RA receptor) 반응성 유전자로 확인되었으며, 제1형 막 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 유전자는 타자로텐 및 레티노산 수용체에 의해 발현이 증가하며, 전립선암에서 프로모터 및 CpG 섬의 메틸화로 인해 발현이 감소하는 것으로 보고되었습니다. 또한, 상이한 이소폼을 암호화하는 전사 변이체가 관찰되었습니다.
