Target Information
EXOSC4 is a non-catalytic component of the RNA exosome complex, which has 3′→5′ exoribonuclease activity. It plays a key role in RNA processing and degradation in both nucleus and cytoplasm.
In the nucleus, it is involved in maturation of stable RNA species (rRNA, snRNA, snoRNA), elimination of RNA processing by-products, and degradation of defective mRNAs.
In the cytoplasm, it contributes to mRNA turnover and degradation of unstable ARE-containing mRNAs, as well as histone mRNA degradation.
The RNA exosome core complex (Exo-9) serves as a scaffold for catalytic subunits and accessory proteins. EXOSC4 binds to ARE-containing RNAs.
