  • Cellular Localization: Nucleus

Specificity Comments:
The DMRT2 gene belongs to the DMRT gene family, sharing a DM DNA-binding domain with Drosophila (dsx) and C. elegans mab3, genes involved in sex determination. This gene is located on chromosome 9p24.3, a region associated with gonadal dysgenesis and XY sex reversal. It functions as a transcriptional activator regulating early activation of MYF5 by binding sequence-specifically to its early epaxial enhancer. DMRT2 is involved in somitogenesis and somite development, contributing to differentiation into sclerotome and dermomyotome, and is required for proper organization of these tissues.

Target Information

Gonadal dysgenesis in 9p-deleted individuals might result from combined hemizygosity of DMRT1 and DMRT2.
