Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa, with isoelectric points between pH 4.9–7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1–20. Expression patterns vary depending on epithelial type and differentiation stage, making cytokeratin profiling valuable for distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are also useful in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
