Target Information
The SNX15 gene encodes a member of the sorting nexin family, which contains a phox domain involved in phosphoinositide binding and intracellular trafficking. Overexpression of SNX15 decreases the processing of insulin and hepatocyte growth factor receptors due to mislocalization of furin, the endoprotease responsible for receptor cleavage. This protein plays a role in endosomal trafficking from the plasma membrane to recycling endosomes or the trans-Golgi network. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, and read-through transcription also exists with the upstream ADP-ribosylation factor-like 2 gene.
