Target Information
DDR1 is a receptor tyrosine kinase activated by collagen and is reported to regulate adhesion, cell migration, and other cellular processes.
Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) play a key role in cellular communication, growth, differentiation, and metabolism.
The encoded protein is widely expressed in normal and transformed epithelial cells and is activated by various types of collagen.
It belongs to a subfamily of tyrosine kinase receptors with homology to the Dictyostelium discoideum discoidin I protein in their extracellular domain.
Autophosphorylation occurs in response to all tested collagens (types I–VI).
Expression is primarily in epithelial cells of kidney, lung, gastrointestinal tract, and brain, and is overexpressed in several human tumors (breast, ovarian, esophageal, pediatric brain).
The gene is located on chromosome 6p21.3 near HLA class I genes and undergoes alternative splicing resulting in multiple transcript variants.
