Target Information
CD25 (IL2 receptor alpha chain/IL2RA) is a cytokine receptor involved in T and B lymphocyte proliferation. IL2RA forms a heterotrimeric complex with IL2RB and IL2RG to create the high-affinity IL2 receptor. Homodimeric IL2RA chains yield low-affinity receptors, while IL2RB homodimers produce medium-affinity receptors. IL2 expression in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, highlighting a unique gene expression regulation mechanism. IL2, produced mainly by mature T cells, functions as a growth and differentiation factor and regulates cell death. It enhances B cell proliferation, boosts NK cell activity, and inhibits granulocyte macrophage colony formation. Disruption of a similar gene in mice results in ulcerative colitis-like disease, indicating its importance in immune response regulation. Mutations in this gene are linked to interleukin 2 receptor alpha deficiency.
