Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein that constitutes about half of the total blood serum protein. It functions mainly as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein with a molecular weight of approximately 65,000 Da. It is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, which undergoes sequential cleavage to proalbumin and then to mature albumin before secretion.
