Target Information
Adrenomedullin (ADM) is a vasodilator produced by most contractile cells and is characterized by persistent hypotensive activity. It regulates fluid and electrolyte homeostasis and maintains cardiovascular function. In hypertensive patients, plasma ADM levels are upregulated. ADM exhibits strong natriuretic actions, increasing glomerular filtration rate and decreasing distal tubular sodium reabsorption. ADM is expressed both peripherally and in the brain, where it can reduce food ingestion.
