Target Information
ARHGAP20 is a potent GTPase-activating protein (GAP) that converts Rho-type GTPases into the inactive GDP-bound state. It contains pleckstrin homology (PH), Ras-associating, Rho-GAP domains, and two Annexin-like (ANXL) repeats.
ARHGAP20 acts as a direct downstream target of Rap1 in neurite outgrowth, where its overexpression inactivates Rho to promote neurite extension in a Rap1-dependent manner. It functions as a tumor suppressor gene, inactivated by deletion in breast cancer and by chromosomal translocation in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
It may participate in cytoskeletal rearrangements and signaling events during spermatogenesis. ARHGAP20 is predominantly expressed in human brain, liver, ovary, and spinal cord, with lower expression in lymph nodes and fetal liver.
