Target Information

BAG-5 protein is hypothesized to induce the death of nigral neurons through interaction with hsp70, leading to increased protein aggregation and cell death by disinhibition of hsp70’s anti-apoptotic function.
BAG-5 may play a key role in neuronal death mechanisms and may act as a modulator of the hsp70/hsp40 chaperone axis, or through BAG-BAG heterodimerization affecting localization and modulation of other BAG-containing proteins.
