Target Information
Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin by the presynaptic neuronal membrane in the central nervous system (CNS), thereby increasing the synaptic concentration of these neurotransmitters. Continuous stimulation may lead to downregulation of adrenergic and serotonin receptors, contributing to its antidepressant activity.
