Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- 20S core: 4 rings of 28 subunits (2 rings of 7 alpha, 2 rings of 7 beta subunits)
- 19S regulator: base (6 ATPase + 2 non-ATPase subunits) and lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits)
Proteasomes are widely distributed in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome is essential for MHC class I peptide processing.
This gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator. Two isoforms are described, and pseudogenes are identified on chromosomes 3 and 20.
