Target Information
HSPBAP1 (HSPB (heat shock 27kDa) associated protein 1), also known as PASS1 (protein associated with small stress protein 1), is a 488 amino acid cytoplasmic protein containing one JMJC (Jumonji C) domain. It shares 80% identity with its rat homolog PASS1. HSPBAP1 is widely expressed, with highest levels in ovary, thymus, and pancreas, and is thought to mediate cellular stress responses. The JMJC domain suggests involvement in chromatin remodeling. Genetic defects or translocations of HSPBAP1 are associated with renal cell carcinoma 1 (RCC1), indicating a potential role in carcinogenesis. Three isoforms exist due to alternative splicing.
