Target Information
The small G protein GDP dissociation stimulator (smg GDS) is a regulatory protein with two main functions for small G proteins such as Rho, Rap1, and Ki-Ras:
- Stimulates GDP/GTP exchange reactions.
- Inhibits interactions with membranes.
The gene-encoded protein contains nine Armadillo repeats and interacts with smg GDS through these repeats. It is localized around the endoplasmic reticulum and phosphorylated by v-src, which reduces its affinity for smg GDS. This protein is thought to link human chromosome-associated polypeptide (HCAP) with KIF3A/B, a kinesin superfamily protein in the nucleus, playing a role in chromosome–motor protein interactions. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
