Target Information
Septin 2 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase required for normal actin cytoskeleton organization and polarized epithelial cell formation. It maintains polyglutamylated microtubules, facilitates vesicle transport, and prevents MAP4 binding to tubulin. Septin 2 is essential for mitotic progression, forming a scaffold at the mitotic spindle midplane to maintain CENPE localization and ensure chromosome congression. During anaphase, it contributes to chromosome segregation and spindle elongation. Septin 2 also functions in ciliogenesis and collective cell movement.
