Target Information
HIPPI is required for the formation of cilia and plays an indirect role in sonic hedgehog signaling, as cilia are essential for hedgehog pathway activity. It exhibits pro-apoptotic function through interaction with HIP1, recruiting caspase-8 (CASP8) to trigger apoptosis. HIPPI can bind the DNA sequence motif 5'-AAAGACATG-3' found in the promoters of caspase genes such as CASP1, CASP8, and CASP10, suggesting a potential transcriptional regulatory role, though its biological relevance remains unclear.
