Target Information
SPHK1, along with SPHK2, catalyzes the phosphorylation of sphingosine to produce sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), a signaling molecule that acts through G-protein coupled receptors to regulate various cellular processes.
S1P is involved in cell differentiation, calcium mobilization, and apoptosis. SPHK inhibitors are considered potential therapeutics for cancer treatment.
S1P receptors belong to the EDG family of G protein-coupled receptors.
