Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of two major structures: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
- 20S core: 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (2 rings of 7 alpha subunits and 2 rings of 7 beta subunits).
- 19S regulator: consists of a base (6 ATPase + 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and function in ATP/ubiquitin-dependent peptide cleavage via a non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome, a modified form, processes class I MHC peptides and contains the 11S regulator (PA28) instead of the 19S regulator.
This gene encodes the gamma subunit of the 11S regulator, forming a homohexameric ring. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
