Target Information
Dioxygenase that specifically demethylates DNA methylated on the 6th position of adenine (N(6)-methyladenosine) DNA.
N(6)-methyladenosine (m6A) DNA is abundant in early embryonic stages but decreases in late stages, acting as a regulator of gene expression.
Promotes differentiation of early germ cells in the ovary and contributes to neuronal morphology, development, and brain function.
By interacting with histone modifier wds, it binds to specific genes, modulates intragenic m6A DNA levels, and maintains transcriptional activation.
Also catalyzes the conversion of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) to 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC).
