Target Information

CXCR5 (C-X-Chemokine Receptor Type 5, CD185), also known as Burkitt lymphoma receptor 1 (BLR1), belongs to the CXC chemokine receptor family.
It is a G protein-coupled seven-transmembrane receptor for chemokine BLC.

  • Specifically expressed in Burkitt’s lymphoma and lymphatic tissues such as lymph node follicles and spleen
  • Plays an essential role in B cell migration
  • Expression observed in human blood, salivary gland, and various animal tissues (lymphatic organs, bone marrow, brain, liver, skin, spleen, stomach, tonsil)
  • ESTs identified from human brain, germ cell, lung, lymph, and pancreas

G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) represent one of the largest families of signaling molecules (>1000 members).
All GPCRs share a seven-transmembrane helical structure and exist in active/inactive conformations.
Activation induces signaling via G-proteins and downstream effectors, while negative regulation ("turn-off" activity) influences physiological responses and drives pharmacological research.

Examples of GPCR-targeted drugs include Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough), used in mental health and allergy treatments respectively.
