NCSTN (Nicastrin)은 감마-시크리타제 복합체의 주요 구성 요소로, Notch 수용체와 베타-아밀로이드 전구체 단백질을 포함한 막 단백질 절단에 관여하는 type I 막당단백질입니다. 이 단백질은 감마-시크리타제 복합체의 조립에 필요한 안정화 보조인자로 작용할 수 있습니다.
베타-아밀로이드 전구체 단백질의 절단은 알츠하이머병 환자의 신경반의 주요 구성 성분인 아밀로이드 베타 펩타이드를 생성합니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 가족성 여드름 역전증(familial acne inversa)과 관련이 있습니다. 해당 유전자의 유사 유전자가 염색체 21번에 존재합니다.
