Target Information
The PCDHA12 gene is a member of the protocadherin alpha gene cluster on chromosome 5, which exhibits a genomic organization similar to that of B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters. This cluster contains 15 cadherin superfamily genes, including 13 highly similar and 2 more distantly related coding sequences. Each gene has large N-terminal exons encoding six cadherin ectodomains and shared C-terminal exons encoding the cytoplasmic domain. These neural cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins are integral membrane proteins, likely involved in establishing and maintaining specific cell-cell connections in the brain. Alternative splicing and additional variants have been observed but not fully characterized.
