Target Information
C6orf123 is located on chromosome 6, which comprises around 1,200 genes within 170 million base pairs. Deletion of a portion of the q arm of chromosome 6 is linked to early onset intestinal cancer, suggesting a cancer susceptibility locus. Chromosome 6 also includes genes associated with porphyria cutanea tarda (HFE), Parkinson’s disease (PARK2), and the major histocompatibility complex proteins that influence immune response and rheumatic disease predisposition. Additional disorders such as Stickler syndrome, 21-hydroxylase deficiency, and maple syrup urine disease are associated with genes on chromosome 6. A bipolar disorder susceptibility locus has also been identified on the q arm. The C6orf123 gene product has been provisionally designated pending further characterization.
