Target Information

This gene encodes a transcriptional regulator with bimodal DNA-binding specificity, binding to both methylated CGCG and non-methylated KAISO-binding site (TCCTGCNA).
It contains an N-terminal POZ/BTB domain and three C-terminal zinc finger motifs.
Kaiso recruits the N-CoR repressor complex to promote histone deacetylation and repressive chromatin formation in target gene promoters.
It may repress Wnt signaling target genes or activate transcription via catenin delta-2 (CTNND2) recruitment.
Interaction with catenin delta-1 (CTNND1) inhibits DNA binding.
Kaiso also interacts with Importin-alpha 2 (karyopherin alpha2), mediating nuclear import.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
