Target Information
CD204 gene encodes the class A macrophage scavenger receptors, which include three different types (1, 2, 3) generated by alternative splicing of this gene. These macrophage-specific trimeric integral membrane glycoproteins are implicated in macrophage-associated processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.
- Isoforms 1 and 2: Functional receptors mediating endocytosis of modified LDLs.
- Isoform 3: Non-functional receptor trapped in the endoplasmic reticulum, exhibiting dominant negative effects on types 1 and 2.
- Diseases associated with MSR1 include Barrett Esophagus and Prostate Cancer.
