Target Information
Adipose tissue acts as an energy reserve and produces various physiologically important proteins such as LPL, leptin, Acrp30, resistin, and perilipin.
Perilipin is an intracellular neutral lipid droplet protein localized on the surface of lipid droplets and hormonally regulated. Upon lipolytic stimulation, perilipin is phosphorylated by protein kinase A and inhibits hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), which mediates triacylglycerol hydrolysis.
Perilipin expression is restricted to adipocytes and steroidogenic cells. Two isoforms, Perilipin A and B, are known and are produced through differential splicing of a single-copy gene.
